Your Role: Middle School Math Teacher

As a Middle School Math Teacher at Uncommon Schools, you will be part of a dynamic team focused on nurturing self-guided learners. Your passion for mathematics will inspire students to embrace challenges and develop critical thinking skills. By the end of eighth grade, your students will be ready for the academic autonomy and college preparatory focus of our high schools.

Key Responsibilities

1. Instruction

  • Teach foundational middle school math principles, including ratios, proportions, expressions, equations, and the number system.
  • Utilize our in-house CCSS-based Math curriculum and culturally responsive problem-solving activities.
  • Motivate students to tackle problems and explore various solutions.
  • Foster confidence and meaningful engagement with mathematics.

2. Data Analysis

  • Collaborate weekly with your principal and/or instructional coach to analyze student work and assessment trends.
  • Implement strategies to differentiate instruction for all learners.

3. School Culture

  • Build positive relationships with students, ensuring they feel seen, loved, and heard.
  • Partner with families to provide the necessary resources for student success.
  • Engage in practice-based professional development, mentorship, and coaching sessions.
  • Participate in weekly school-wide meetings to cultivate community and encourage student achievement.
  • Collaborate with your grade level team to set academic goals and refine instructional strategies.
Qualifications
  • A strong commitment to supporting students’ social, emotional, and academic development.
  • A collaborative spirit, eager to work with internal and external partners for the benefit of students.
  • A self-directed learner who actively seeks and implements feedback to improve outcomes.
  • Required Experience:
    • 1-2 years of experience impacting K-12 students in urban schools and communities is preferred.
    • Academic expertise in Mathematics, Science, Technology, Engineering, or related fields.
    • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required. Certification is not mandatory at the time of hiring, but you must meet NY state certification eligibility requirements.

Compensation

The salary for this role ranges from $50,000 to $64,700 . Starting pay is determined by various factors, including relevant full-time teaching experience, education certifications, and tenure with Uncommon Schools. Candidates without full-time teaching experience will likely start at $50,000.
