JOB DESCRIPTION

An established performer with strong communication skills who proactively builds relationships, the Mid-level Exhibit Designer will work closely with the Senior (Physical) Designer to develop design solutions with technical integrity and to integrate exhibits, graphics and media concepts into engaging experiences. (Master Planning thru Installation)

Project Responsibilities / Tasks (85%)

Clients and Consultants

  • Working understanding of G&A’s scope of work
  • Basic understanding of consultants’ contracts / scope of work
  • Attends to client meetings (travels to)
  • Participates in consultant coordination meetings (travels to)
  • Participates in design workshops (internal and with client stakeholders)
  • Participates during Construction Administration and Installation phases (travels to)

Design and Documentation

  • Working understanding of documentation standards and practices
  • Proficient understanding of visualization standards and practices
  • Working understanding of architectural coordination issues
  • Working understanding of design planning issues
  • Working understanding of storytelling techniques
  • Working understanding of materials, fabrication processes and techniques
  • Basic understanding of the zeitgeist
  • Translates CAD information from clients/architects to suit G&A design purposes and processes
  • Integrates graphic, content and technology elements
  • Produces 3D digital models
  • Produces design sketches (digital and hand-drawn)
  • Produces presentation plans/elevations/sections/axons, visualizations, and flythroughs
  • Develops image mood boards and finish palettes
  • Develops fabrication intent documentation with direction (drawings / specifications)
  • Develops architectural coordination documentation with direction (drawings / specifications)
  • Contributes to the organizing idea and strategy stack

Management: Design and Production

  • Working understanding of project phases
  • Basic understanding of ROM implementation costs information
  • Basic understanding of exhibition implementation schedule
  • Aligns efforts to work plans throughout project phases
  • Coordinates designs with and Exhibit systems
  • Maintains project file and folder system

Team Responsibilities / Tasks (15%)

Recruiting / Hiring

  • Refers people in their professional network for jobs

Capability Workflow

  • Working understanding of G&A best practices for file and folder maintenance
  • Maintains adherence to the team’s application of processes, tools, and templates
  • Creates and maintains team-level digital assets
  • Researches and compiles material library assets
  • Maintains vendor contacts for materials and furnishings

Professional Development

  • Working understanding of Situated Media / Universal Design / Material Culture
  • Proficient understanding of all team software and tools
  • Working understanding of communications
  • Attends weekly team meetings
  • Mentors Junior designers
  • Trains Junior designers

Marketing/External Development

  • Attends conferences, seminars, and workshops, bringing back learning and disseminating the information

Basic Job Qualifications

  • Work independently and contribute immediately
  • Basic understanding of - surface-level processing of information ( Knows what )
  • Working understanding of - practical application of information
  • Proficient understanding of - critical analysis and creative application of information
  • Fluency in - able to explore the significance, intricacies, interrelationships and implications ( Knows how )

Occasional travel to our hub locations or other company sites may be required for team meetings, training sessions, or special projects. However, such travel will be planned well in advance, and expenses will be covered by the company.
