Job Description Job Summary: Under moderate direction, Senior Logistics Analyst analyzes import/export processes and ensures on-schedule delivery of materials. Determines import and export classifications, prepares and submits license applications and classification requests, and maintains a classification database. Prepares import/export documents, provides instructions to import and export agents, and coordinates efficient flow of information and documents to custom brokers and customers. Has thorough technical knowledge of all phases of the activity. Performs work with more autonomy than the entry level analyst role. Acts as a resource to less experienced professionals. Roles and Responsibilities: Reviews and manages all assigned transportation lanes from and/or to suppliers and customers to ensure shipments are properly shipped and classified, taking corrective action when necessary. Supports management to facilitate and ensure compliance with U.S. Customs and ensure import and export laws and regulations are being met, to include collaboration with suppliers and freight forwarders to achieve this end goal. Researches U.S. Customs regulations and rulings, determines statutory, regulatory, or interpretive basis for each classification and retains supporting documents for U.S. Customs record-keeping requirements. Maintains documentation and database(s) to substantiate origin identification. Interfaces with engineering, technical services, and suppliers to determine and/or validate classification and country of origin markings. Creates export documents for international shipments and coordinates shipment with customer requested carrier/freight forwarder, when instructed. Generates appropriate detailed and timely customs documentation for export shipments via various modes of transportation (air, full container/truck, LCL/LTL, and small parcel) and ensures that all export documentation such as Commercial Invoice, Shipper's Export Declaration, Shipper's Letter of Instructions, Certificate of Origin, and Bill of Lading are available as required for shipment. Works with suppliers and freight forwarders so that all import documents are received in a timely manner and entries clear U.S. Customs without any issues. Coordinates closely with the procurement group on imports to ensure N.A.F.T.A. vendor solicitation requests for N.A.F.T.A. are being made and Certificates of Origin are provided timely. Performs periodic post entry audits on imports and submit findings to management. Files protest, U.S. Customs ruling, and/or prior disclosure if necessary. Prepares duty refund/payment claims with U.S. Customs as part of internal reviews. Researches industry best practices and offers suggestions for internal process improvements. Acts as a mentor to less experienced professionals. Performs other duties as assigned. Skills and Abilities: Strong knowledge and familiarity with U.S. Customs compliance rules and regulations and NAFTA Intermediate level of proficiency in Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint and inventory tracking software such as AS400/BPCS Strong math skills with the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discount, interest and percentages Strong analytical skills with the capacity to identify, evaluate and assimilate information. Analytical skills to handle reasonably complex situations. Recommends improvements and/or efficiencies. Uses intuition and experience to complement data Strong written and verbal communication skills and presentation skills. Ability to communicate with internal and external customers on issues of moderate to considerable importance Strong customer service skills.
