Join our friendly, collaborative, and hardworking Strategic Partnerships, Advocacy, & Voice (SPAV) team, reporting to the Associate Director, Policy & Advocacy.As a policy analyst, you are responsible for analyzing, researching, and interpreting public policies and their impact the Food Bank on the Local, State, and Federal level. Your role involves developing detailed analysis of legislation that could impact the Food Bank and developing recommendations in coordination with the Associate Director of Policy and Advocacy on proposed advocacy efforts and analyzing potential outcomes.Who We Are:Our mission is to end hunger in San Francisco and Marin.We envision a just and equitable society that nurtures a resilient community. Every week, over 50,000 households count on us for food assistance. 60% of what we distribute is fresh fruits and vegetables.Who You Are:To excel in this position, you will need to approach the work with the following habits and values:Analytical and critical thinking skillsResearch and data analysis skillsStrong written and verbal communication skillsAbility to present complex information in a clear and concise mannerKnowledge of public policies and their impactAbility to work independently and in a team settingStrong problem-solving skillsTime management and organization skillsWhat You Would Be Accountable for:The Policy Analyst will be responsible for the following key pieces of work:Supporting the implementation of policy and advocacy campaigns and initiatives.Coordinating communications plans that meet policy and advocacy objectives.Keeping up to date on legislative trends on the local, state, and federal levels.Supporting partnership development with community-based organizations, faith-based. Elected official offices and other groups to advance policy and advocacy initiatives.What You Would Be Doing Right Now:Legislative & Administrative Policy AnalysisConducting research on potential policies and their impact.Analyzing data related to policies and their impact.In coordination with the Associate Director of Policy & Advocacy, developing policy. recommendations and presenting these findings to the department lead of SPAV.Communicating policies and analysis to internal stakeholders.Monitoring the implementation of policies and their impact.In coordination with the Associate Director of Policy & Advocacy, develop and maintain the policy agenda.Support Advocacy CampaignsDevelop and/or support implementation of policy analysis to grassroot advocacy efforts.Lead the creation of legislative content.Contribute to Food Bank publications – policy briefs, white papers, reports, as directed by the Director of Policy and Advocacy.Assist in other Food Bank duties as assigned.Research and Communications:Research impacts to policies and legislative action, and emerging trends and outcomes of policiesPrepare policy briefs based upon analysis and research conductedPrepare content for public dissemination to targeted publics.Draft key talking points on legislation.What Else You Should Know:PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:Bachelor’s degree in public policy, public administration, education, public health or equivalent advocacy experience.1+ years of relevant work experience in relationship building with both government and non-governmental organizations with a proven track record of measurable success in analyzing policy initiatives and outcomes.Extensive knowledge of legislative process.Knowledge of issues related to hunger and poverty a plus.Knowledge of governmental nutrition assistance programs a plus.KEY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:Proficient in MS Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word etc.)An analytical mindset with problem-solving skills.Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including experience with public speaking.Excellent research and analytical skills.Ability to clearly communicate data-related work and information for technical and lay audiences.Ability to listen, identify, analyze, and take ownership of program problems.Strong interpersonal and communication skills.Excellent organizational and time-management skills.Ability to work efficiently, independently and as part of a team; to communicate regularly; and meet deadlines.PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:This position is set in a hybrid environment.
