Plant Manager is expected to work a 40-hour work week and is expected to increase availability if necessary to meet the Company’s customers’ demands. This employee’s availability must be predictable at scheduled times and is required to be physically present at the workplace in order to conduct business.

General Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the production of the highest quality of products and services at the lowest possible cost, while meeting company standards for quality and performance
  • Meet or exceed customer specifications and delivery requirements, in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Analyze, review, and recommend as well as implement changes that would ensure the functionality, productivity, and efficiency of all production departments.
  • Lead custom/special projects as needed and distribute departmental labor accordingly.

Organizational Relationships:

Reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer. Works closely with Art, Sales, Customer Service, Materials and Scheduling to accurately and efficiently meet the customer’s needs. Supervises First and Second-shift production supervisors and floor leads, and scheduling personnel.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Prioritize, schedule, and delegate work assignments, and manage the production functions overall.
  • Coordinate with all departments to maintain production schedules. Ensure the optimum utilization of machine and human assets by scheduling jobs to reduce set-up time and assigning work to maximize employee skills and abilities. Ensure the maintenance of assigned equipment in proper operating condition to minimize maintenance costs and maintain quality tolerances.
  • Lead or participate in cross-functional teams to ensure the continuous, on-going improvement of processes, methods, productivity and quality, while reducing costs.
  • Inspect product and processes, ensuring the meeting of quality standards in accordance with customer and company specifications. Approve colors for critical work.
  • Control labor, material and supply expenses within budgetary constraints.
  • Manage the training of new and present employees in the processes and methods required to achieve the Company’s standards for quality, quantity and safety, and consistent with the Company’s principles.
  • Works with Scheduling to revise production schedules and priorities as a result of equipment failure or operating problems.
  • Keep executive management informed on general conditions and on matters of importance which could impact quality, cost, safety or employee morale.
  • Develop and maintain positive employee relations and ensure open lines of communications with employees.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in a professional and respectful manner, to include interviewing, hiring, disciplinary action, terminations, and settlement of grievances.
  • Attend and actively participate in all assigned meetings and committees.
  • Complete special projects assigned.
  • Ensure the completion of all required records, paperwork, reports, documents, etc.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety and work rules and regulations. Ensure the maintenance of departmental housekeeping standards.

Educational Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree and 5 years production supervisory or management experience; or 10 years supervisory and/or management experience in a production environment; preferably within the printing industry; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Mental and Physical Requirements:

Excellent English communication skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, work orders, governmental regulations, and policy and procedure manuals. Ability to write instructional materials so they are easily understood. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and employees. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written and oral form. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Must pass physical and drug screen. Requires performing tasks standing (30%), walking (40%), bending (0%) and sitting (30%). Lifts materials up to 25 pounds and carries while walking up to 5 times per day for distances up to 10 feet. Lifts manuals and product materials weighing up to 10 pounds off files/shelves to the workstation up to 5 times per day. Works in an air-conditioned office environment/shop environment with low to moderate noise levels.

Performance Standards:

Ability to perform above tasks/duties accurately and efficiently with no supervision. Demonstrate initiative, increased quantity, dependability, healthy work relationships, increased knowledge, and a positive and professional attitude overall. Manage subordinates professionally and respectfully at all times and in all situations/instances. Maintain accurate orders, files, office equipment and work area. Conduct business safely and practice good housekeeping at all times.
