Summary

Performs laboratory procedures to obtain results for providers to utilize in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Uses established procedures and protocols that require the exercise of independent judgment and responsibility with minimal technical supervision.

Job Duties
  • Performs any high complexity, moderate complexity or waived laboratory testing in the assigned testing department. Utilizes advanced clinical laboratory instrumentation and methodologies according to departmental standard operating procedures. Confirms, verifies, and reports the results of this testing independently exercising broad independent judgment. Monitors results for reasonableness and critical values.

  • Conducts and evaluates established quality control per departmental standard operating procedures. Troubleshoots and reports to management any unacceptable quality control before reporting patent results.

  • Performs required departmental preventative maintenance per standard operating procedures.
  • \n
  • Recognizes and corrects instrument or procedural malfunctions within the scope of the standard operating procedures and records troubleshooting activities.
  • \n
  • Provides clinical orientation and/or training of new employees/students.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must meet CLIA 88 personnel requirements for high complexity testing.
  • \n
  • Bachelor's Degree Medical Technology or related science field from an accredited institution or
  • \n
  • must meet CLIA grandfathered medical technologist regulations or
  • \n
  • Individuals who successfully passed the HEW (grandfathered) Med Techs Proficiency Examination for Medical Technologists
  • Less than 1 year of experience and
  • \n
  • a clinical laboratory internship
  • Demonstrated technical skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific documents.
  • \n
  • Ability to read, understand, and speak basic English.
  • \n
  • Demonstrated ability to use/learn the computer system, word processing, e-mail, and applicable software programs.
  • \n
  • Demonstrated dependability/flexibility in meeting scheduling needs of the department, unit, and hospital.
  • \n
  • Ability to apply common mathematical skills.
  • \n
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • \n
  • Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Preferred Qualifications
  • MLS - Medical Laboratory Scientist ASCP - State of Pennsylvania or
  • \n
  • MLT - Medical Laboratory Technologist ASCP - State of Pennsylvania or
  • \n
  • MT - Medical Technologist - AAB Board of Registry
Physical Demands

Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. *Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
