Duties The Department of Medicine supports teaching, research, and clinical missions and employs 486+ faculty, 100+ academic appointees, 600+ staff, students, and volunteers. The position provides support for multisite research projects (R01) La Frontera and sub-studies focusing on risks for HIV and HCV among drug users in San Diego. Duties include:
Recruitment and interviewing: contact potential participants, determine eligibility, obtain informed consent, administer qualitative interviews and quantitative questionnaires, and write field note summaries. Ensure data collection integrity and confidentiality. Provide participant referrals for medical and social services.
Project Administrative Support: set up interview appointments and participate in study meetings by phone or video conference.
Other duties as needed.
Minimum Qualifications Theoretical knowledge typically acquired with a Bachelor's degree in public health, psychology or a similar field.
Ability to work one-on-one with active drug users in a respectful manner.
Knowledge of harm reduction principles and practices.
Experience collaborating with community-based organizations.
Ability to comply with confidentiality and human subjects requirements in medical/public health research.
Ability to exercise judgment regarding survey protocol responses.
Experience working independently and meeting deadlines with minimal supervision.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work effectively as part of an academic research team.
Positive, professional demeanor.
Experience recruiting, following up, and interviewing active drug users.
Preferred Qualifications Bilingual skills in Spanish/English (verbal and written).
CPR training or willingness to be trained in CPR.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS Must be willing to interact with active drug users, sex workers, and HIV/HCV populations.
Must have access to reliable transportation and be willing to travel across San Diego County for recruitment, follow-up, and interviews every six months.
Occasional evenings and weekends required.
Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
Pay Transparency Annual Full Pay Range: $55,374 - $66,064 (prorated if appointment percentage is less than 100%). Hourly Equivalent: $26.52 - $31.64. Pay range factors include experience, skills, knowledge, education, licensure/certifications, and other needs. The posting’s Hiring Pay Scale is the budgeted salary/hourly range the University expects to pay for this position.
