Job Description

About General Oncology

General Oncology is a biopharmaceutical company focusing on the development of new treatments for metastatic cancer. We are completing a phase 1 trial on our lead candidate, GO-4, for patients with stage IV pancreatic cancer in the setting of a BRCA mutation and are preparing for a potentially pivotal phase 2 study. We are hiring a seasoned and experienced Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to lead our clinical development and execution.

The Role

The CMO will be an executive leadership team member and, in conjunction with the Chief Scientific Officer (CSO), the CMO will act as the main medical and clinical representative of the company, overseeing clinical development, regulatory interactions, and external scientific engagements. In addition, the CMO will work closely with the CEO and CFO on fundraising and investor relations and with the CSO on pipeline development and market positioning.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership and Clinical Development

  • Supervise the design, execution, and oversight of clinical trials, including the upcoming SHARON-2 study and other future programs.
  • Act as the primary medical contact with the FDA and other regulatory bodies to guide the clinical development strategy and compliance.
  • Supervise medical affairs such as patient safety, pharmacovigilance, and clinical data analysis.
  • Guarantee the correct identification and retention of the clinical trial sites and principal investigators and the development of the trial networks through industry relationships.
  • Work with the CSO to develop the scientific and clinical strategy for GO-4 and our ultra-high-potency small molecule portfolio.

Investor Relations & Fundraising

  • Be a primary representative of the company in its interactions with investors, venture capital firms, and strategic partners.
  • Assist the CEO, CFO and other individuals in the fundraising process, including institutional funding, partnerships, and non-dilutive funding.
  • Provide clinical data and corporate strategy at investor conferences, scientific meetings, and industry forums.

Business Development & External Engagement

  • Represent the company at medical, regulatory, and industry conferences to build credibility and partnerships.
  • Engage with key opinion leaders and scientific advisory boards to strengthen General Oncology’s clinical and strategic position.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with life science, pharmaceutical, and biotech partners, evaluating potential collaborations and licensing opportunities.

Regulatory & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with GCP, FDA, and global regulatory guidelines across clinical operations.
  • Participate in regulatory submissions, advisory board meetings, and interactions with health authorities.
  • Supervise medical writing, clinical trial documentation, and safety reporting.

Qualifications

  • M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. (or equivalents) with board certification in oncology.
  • 15+ years of experience in clinical development, with at least 5 years in a senior executive role (CMO, VP Clinical Development, or equivalent) in a pharma or biotech company.
  • Strong oncology and rare disease expertise preferred; experience in pancreatic cancer, BRCA-mutated cancers, or DNA repair mechanisms is a plus.
  • Proven success in leading clinical trials from Phase I through Phase III.
  • Experience with FDA and global regulatory agencies, including IND and NDA filings.
  • Investor relations and fundraising experience required; track record of engaging with venture capitalists and institutional investors.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset—demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced, early-stage biotech environment.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and strategic thinking skills with a hands-on, collaborative approach.
  • Ability to travel frequently for site visits, conferences, and investor meetings.

Why Join Us?

  • Be a key leader in advancing first-in-class oncology therapies with the potential for long-term survival benefits.
  • Work with world-renowned scientists, leading oncologists, and top-tier investors in a cutting-edge startup.
  • Opportunity to drive the clinical, regulatory, and commercial success of a transformative cancer therapy.
  • Competitive compensation package, including equity participation in a high-growth company.

Compensation

A competitive base salary with bonus incentives that are performance-based, and a stock option grant that is tied to the growth of the company and partnership milestones.
