JOB TITLE: Certified Telecommunications Specialist 2
JOB GRADE: 9 REPORTS TO: Hunter Myers, Operations Manager
STATUS: Non-exempt LOCATION: Yurok Reservation
ALL HIRING IS SUBJECT TO THE YUROK TRIBE’S HIRING PREFERENCE
SALARY RANGE: $29.23 – 41.19 per hour plus overtime

POSITION SUMMARY : Under the general supervision of the Operations Manager, incumbent is responsible for installation, daily operation, maintenance, and problem resolution for a telecommunications network; maintains relevant certifications required, provides support to the Yurok Connect Program.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
  1. Climbing telecommunication towers.
  2. Activities necessary to maintain status as a certified climber.
  3. Troubleshooting and repairing backup power systems.
  4. Installs, maintains, and repairs wireless Client Premise Equipment (CPE) at customer locations and the Tribe's telecommunications network and equipment.
  5. Maintains and manages the customer database.
  6. Maintains the Yurok Tribe's wide area network (WAN), telecommunications infrastructure, and ensures compliance with all applicable laws, policies, and regulations.
  7. Upgrades and installs network hardware and software components as required.
  8. Provides clients with network technical support. Responds to the needs and questions of clients concerning their access to the network.
  9. Collaborates with management and staff in meeting goals and guidelines.
  10. Disaster recovery planning and testing.
  11. Perform routine maintenance or repair work on existing tower equipment, using hand or power tools.
  12. Inspect completed work to ensure all hardware is tight, antennas are level, hangers are properly fastened, proper support is in place, or adequate weather proofing has been installed.
  13. Bolts equipment into place, using hand or power tools.
  14. Tests, locates, and repairs equipment problems associated with trouble calls, and performs routine maintenance.
  15. Verifies work order information and receipt of all necessary equipment and information.
  16. Maintains access to network infrastructure equipment (paths, roads, etc.).
  17. Maintains current knowledge of relevant technologies as assigned.
  18. Participates in special projects as required.
  19. Must train new employees and get them to working order.
  20. Participates in ongoing network and telecoms trainings to gain/maintain necessary expertise.
  21. Partakes in training and development of fiber network to gain understanding of how a 24x7x365 fiber network will operate.
  22. Scheduled on call and call back mandatory as part of 24x7 operations.
  23. Performs other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE :
  1. Two years equivalent to at least a G-4 and high school graduation or equivalent.
  2. Certified telecommunications tower climber
  3. Prior climbing experience preferred.
  4. Candidates with equivalent combinations of education, training and experience will be considered.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Current certification of telecommunication tower climbing required (or to be obtained within 3 months of employment).
  2. Current certification in First Aid and CPR (or to be obtained within 3 months of employment).
  3. Knowledge of backup telecommunication infrastructure power systems.
  4. Willing to gain relevant certifications in telecommunications power systems.
  5. Knowledge of both licensed and unlicensed Microwave wireless technologies.
  6. Experience installing either microwave, satellite, or cable CPE.
  7. Network/computer literate.
  8. Previous experience working for an Internet Service Provider.
  9. Must be self-driven, self-motivated, results-oriented, customer service-oriented, while being an effective team player.
  10. Excellent customer relations and issue resolution skills.
  11. Must be comfortable in a wide range of work environments, including confined spaces (attics and crawl spaces), heights up to 199' above the ground, standard office environments, and remote company and customer premises.
  12. Able to work year-round in all elements, sometimes extreme.
  13. Required to work overtime hours as needed.
  14. Able to move, transport, and position objects of 50+ lbs.
  15. Able to stand, walk, stoop, sit, and climb ladders.
  16. Able to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and ethically perform duties.
  17. Recognition that in order to serve Yurok People one must know as much as possible about Yurok history, culture and values.

  6. Position could require travel and occasional work outside of regular work schedule.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment temperature can fluctuate between 40-90 degrees Fahrenheit due to open doors and windows. The job will require inside and outside activities. There are many distractions, and the noise level can escalate.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Must have the ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. With ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Knowledge of Yurok language is preferred but not required.

REASONING ABILITY:
Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and/or diagram form. With ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, stand, use hands and fingers, handle, or feel. Employee will have prolonged periods of standing and constant movement. The employee must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

VISION REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less).
  2. Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors).
  3. Depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships).
  4. Ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus).
