Job Description

The Behavioral Health Technician I position is responsible for providing direct and supportive care to clients/patients. Duties generally include, but are not limited to, providing general oversight of day to day activities and at times, redirect of clients/patients; health monitoring (vital signs), intervene/respond to crisis and communicate with established treatment team, facilitate group education/structured activities, and/or transport clients/patients as needed. Behavioral Health Technicians are responsible for possessing a basic understanding of client/patient treatment plan, monitoring and documenting client/patient behavior and providing safe, therapeutic, and supportive environment for clients/patients. Key responsibilities include admitting, supervising, monitoring, transferring, and discharging clients/patients; monitoring vital signs and withdrawal symptoms; overseeing medication administration; facilitating client supervision checks; assisting with personal care; encouraging adherence to program expectations; participating in treatment teams; documenting client behavior; assisting in admission/orientation; facilitating urine collection and testing; operating telephone system; assisting and educating clients; monitoring client activities; fostering adaptive behavior; ensuring precaution protocols; monitoring general health conditions; facilitating group rehabilitative support and education; providing transportation; maintaining behavior consistent with organization code of conduct; completing mandatory trainings; attending meetings and trainings; maintaining a safe and clean environment; reporting maintenance problems; adhering to program policies; demonstrating interest in organizational goals; and other duties as assigned. Knowledge required includes confidentiality laws, communication skills, ability to read and interpret documents, basic math skills, writing routine reports, speaking effectively, applying common sense, keyboarding skills, problem-solving, and establishing rapport with clients. Experience and education qualifications include a high school education or equivalent with two years responsible employment, preferably in human services or related field. Additional certifications and training are required including Level 1 Med Aid credentialing, insulin certification, background checks, new hire orientation, Relias training, valid driver’s license and insurance, first aid and CPR certification, medication administration, behavioral management training, and adolescent program training if applicable. Physical requirements are sedentary work with occasional lifting up to 10 pounds and repetitive movements for typing or writing.
