Job Role: Accounting Assistant

Location: Bend, OR (Hybrid - requiring 3 days/week on-site)

Compensation: $25/hour W2 & $50,000 / year

Employment Type: 3-Month Contract-to-Hire

We're partnering with a well-established company in the retail sector to help them find an Accounting Assistant to support their Sales Tax team. If you're detail-oriented, love working with numbers, and enjoy digging into data to make sure everything adds up, this could be a great next step in your career.

What you'll be doing:

• Prepare and file sales and use tax returns for various states and jurisdictions.
• Track and verify tax exemption documentation from retail stores—follow up where needed to ensure compliance.
• Reconcile tax general ledger accounts and review system-generated reports to validate tax charges.
• Serve as a point of contact for store and service center staff—help answer questions on exemptions, use tax, invoice corrections, and more.
• Provide training and maintain up-to-date resources on sales and use tax policies.
• Support audits and assist with general record-keeping and documentation.

What our client is looking for:

• At least 2+ years of experience in accounting, finance, or a related area (sales/use tax experience is a plus but not required).
• High School diploma or equivalent required; an Associate's or Bachelor's degree is preferred.
• Proficiency with Google Workspace, especially Excel or Sheets.
• Experience with systems like NetSuite, Vertex, OneSource, or other ERP/tax platforms is a bonus.
• Strong communication skills—clear, professional, and responsive both in writing and on the phone.
• Solid attention to detail and the ability to manage tasks with efficiency and care.
• A team player who enjoys helping others and solving problems collaboratively.
